Nathan's Story
Nathan, from Bellevue, Ohio, was diagnosed with Stage 2 testicular cancer in 2015, just two weeks before Christmas. From that devastating moment until February 2, 2015, he had already undergone two surgeries and began chemotherapy treatment.
Despite facing such overwhelming challenges, Nathan found strength and purpose in theater. He got involved with Caryl Crane Youth Theater, discovering a community that would support him through his darkest days. His passion for theater became a beacon of hope during his treatment.
On June 8th, 2015, Nathan was officially declared cancer-free. Though he continued annual checkups to ensure his health remained strong, Nathan didn't let cancer define his future. He went on to produce shows at the Mercury Theater, turning his love of performance into a career.
What inspires Nathan most about theater is witnessing actors transform from unknown talent to landing their dream roles on Broadway. His own journey from cancer patient to theater professional embodies this same transformation.
The theater community rallied around Nathan in extraordinary ways. Cues were named in his honor across the country:
- Man of La Mancha at Shakespeare Theatre - #CuesForNathan
- STCManiacs named a cue during their production of The Metromaniacs
- Pippin The Musical on tour - "NATHAN, You've got Magic to Do"
- Even the curator for the Grand Canyon sent a selfie wearing purple to show support
Nathan's story reminds us that cancer may interrupt our lives, but it doesn't have to stop our dreams. Through courage, community support, and the healing power of theater, Nathan turned his battle into a beacon of hope for others.
